Something For Everyone!
Good morning to you all on this truly beautiful day. We are getting a lot of e-mails about our back catalogue. Just to clarify, we have practically run out of all stock now. We have a few copies of "And Another Thing EP" and "Adverse Camber" left plus a small quantity of "Acoustically Speaking": and the DVD "Highway To High Voltage". "Adventures In Neverland" is alive and kicking and can be found almost everywhere, except of course on our website as this is an Esoteric licensed recording. Once the Comet Music releases are gone, they are gone until next year when, we will be re-releasing them alongside our new album (which we now have a name for, by the way ***tease***). If you want all the releases in digital format, then they are most certainly available.
In response to the above, we are putting a very special little package together for you. We will be selling 40 or 50 "TR" emblazoned 4Gb memory sticks that will contain the following albums in high quality MP3 format -
"Awakening"
"Dark Angel"
"Adverse Camber"
"And Another Thing......."
"The Bottle Of Gettysburg - Live In The USA"
We will also be selling the remainder of our "Adventures In Neverland" T-Shirts. You can buy everything in the following format -
1) Memory Stick with all the above albums - £15.00 + P&P
2) "Adventures In Neverland" T-Shirts - £10.00 + P&P
3) Memory Stick + T-Shirt Package - £20.00 + P&P
Anyone who purchases option 3 will also get a free 'Adventures In Neverland' wristband - WHILE STOCKS LAST!
These will be up for sale by the middle of the month and again, once they're gone, they're gone. We're literally clearing the decks for what lies ahead of us and trust us, there's a lot happening.
Finally, congratulations to The Netherlands and all our Dutch friends on the coronation of your new King, your first in 120 years. Have a wonderful day celebrating.
See you all soon and take care. We miss playing for you guys and loves you all. TR xxxxx

Q&A, Jamm Studios, and HRH PROG!
Cardiff based rock band The Reasoning features Rachel Cohen (vocals), Tony Turrell (keyboards/vocals), Matthew Cohen (bass), Jake Bradford-Sharp (drums) and Keith Hawkins (guitars). Between them the band have over 20 years experience in nearly all aspects of the music industry.
The band's career to date has included many highlights, from guest appearances by Marillion's Steve Rothery and the first official single (a cover of the Duran Duran classic The Chauffeur) reaching No.2 in the Amazon Download Chart, to opening the final day of the inaugural High Voltage festival in London and performing at the Rites of Spring Festival (RoSfest) in the USA.
Having established an excellent fan-base - and garnered much coverage within the UK music press - The Reasoning signed a worldwide deal with the dynamic Esoteric/Cherry Red Records in 2012. The first album for the label, Adventures In Neverland (Sep 2012) has gained critical acclaim, and has remained in Cherry Red's top 25 bestseller list since its release.
The band are delighted to be playing at the superb Jamm Studios facility in St.Helens as part of their lead up to appearing at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell Prog festival on April 6th. Starting with a Q&A workshop with some acoustic numbers, the band will then play an electric set of around an hour. A bar will be available in the venue for any thirsty people. Doors are at 7:30pm, with the workshop due to start between 8:00-8:15pm and the electric set around 9:00-9:15pm.

Welcome To The Future Of The Reasoning!
Hello, dear friends!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year... We trust that you all had a wonderful festive holiday. We band members spent our time engaged in a variety of different activities, but all with similar results, that is, plenty of booze, friends and merriment. Perfect! So: what does 2013 hold for The Reasoning? Let us tell you.......
We'll begin with some brief reflections on 2012. Given that last year featured two key releases: our independently issued EP (entitled And Another Thing.......) in March, followed by our fourth studio album - Adventures in Neverland - released in September via our new label, Esoteric/Antenna, The Reasoning hit the ground running. We headed straight out on tour throughout Europe and the UK, starting off with a support slot on home turf with the mighty Marillion. What a fantastic way to introduce new music and to start a tour. We then took to the road with our old pals Touchstone that was a truly wonderful experience in every sense and one that solidified our friendship - it really was a huge group of people acting as one and helping each other out every step of the way. The tour also showed us that the support and love for this band and its music is unequivocally steadfast and true. We played to much larger audiences this time around, comprised of many old friends as well as lots of new ones, all of whom sang their hearts out and made each show something really special. We rounded off the tour, of course, by opening for FISH at his convention in Leamington: a mind-blowing experience that will live long in our collective memory as a roof-raising all-time best performance.
Reviews for Adventures in Neverland continue to arrive in their dozens, and the general consensus has been incredibly positive, with many critics and writers identifying this as our best album to date... A perspective with which we couldn't agree more! Many compliments have been made about the musical development of the band, Rach's exquisite vocal performance, and the strength of our newest line-up. Plenty of observations too about the album marking our foray into far more adventurous musical territories, and yet retaining those trademark Reasoning irresistible melodies. We've been thrilled to witness so many old friends returning to the fold and embracing The Reasoning and its music again: a phenomenon that really has meant the world to us.
Now that 2013 is here, we're already looking well ahead and into the future, and we have some incredibly exciting plans in the pipeline! Whilst we're not at liberty to disclose all of the details immediately, we can confirm that we intend to tour in the summer, and that we will be bringing the whole of Adventures in Neverland to the stage for the first time during these shows. You can also expect to hear the usual suspects, of course... As well as some not so usual suspects, perhaps. We plan to play a handful of shows across the UK, with additional dates in Europe and Scandinavia, and will release the dates as soon as they're confirmed.
What about a new album, then? Our next album is at the planning and writing stage as you read this newsletter, and is a shaping up to be something of a huge - and very unique - project! We are steadfast in our determination to give this project the time and energy that it deserves in order to fulfill its potential, and have therefore decided to dedicate the whole of 2013 (and perhaps the early part of 2014) to finish it in style. We're already talking to some new studios, producers and engineers, because our plans are very special and very specific. This will be an album with a real difference. No more details on that until we are ready to tour, so sit tight and prepare to be very excited indeed!
In the meantime, we have decided to re-release some of our back catalogue, since demand for some of the older albums remains high, and our current stock has run dry. Interestingly, many of you have also asked us to consider re-releasing these in vinyl format, and your wish is our command! The first of these vinyl releases will be our debut album Awakening: this will be entirely repackaged, and available as a very limited run only. Expect further news about this before summer 2012 and, if you are one of the parties interested in registering for this limited edition pressing, please forward to your enquiry to thereasoning@hotmail.co.uk. The subsequent albums will follow suit at a later date.
And there's more!
2013 will mostly be organised around writing for album 5 (and our tour dates), and so each and every band member will also be venturing out on their own with some side projects. It's important to point out that these projects are as well as - and not instead of - The Reasoning... Just to make that very clear!
Matt and Keith have formed a new project called Foxbat, that will release and tour a new album this year. This band is a much more traditional, riff based rock band, which will deliver the kind of music that has influenced the boys from an early age, but with somewhat of a contemporary twist. Four of the band's five final members are already confirmed at this stage, and the line-up is as follows:
Bass: Matt Cohen
Guitars: Keith Hawkins
Drums: Ian Harris (Chris Rea, Tony Hadley, Mica Paris , Karnataka incarnation two of three)
Joining the boys on vocals is Simon Hobson, a London-based singer with a serious set of pipes! A Hammond player will complete the band's line-up very soon, and a full press release on the project will be issued sometime during February, when a brand new website will also be launched. For now, you can follow progress at Facebook.com/foxbatrocks and Twitter.com/foxbatrocks - check the pages out!
As many of you are already aware, Jake is currently working with a three-piece side project called Echochain. The band have several gigs under their belt already, and have released a 4 track EP and a download single. Later on in 2013, they hope to secure a record deal, and release a full length album, following the appointment of an additional member and front-person. More news soon at echochain.co.uk
Tony is currently in his final year of music college, but he is also busy in the studio finishing up his new solo album. He can of course also be seen on stage fairly regularly all over the UK with his covers band: the wonderful Purple Rain.
Rach has been invited by a few well-respected artists to guest on their new projects: more details to follow on this once things are finalised. She also has a busy semester about to begin in her extra-musical role as an academic, having designed a brand new module, entitled Popular Music and Identity, that she will be teaching to final year Undergraduates at Cardiff University's very prestigious School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies. The Reasoning may well feature quite a bit. It would be rude not to, after all...
So there we have it, dear friends, there are a(nother) very busy couple of years ahead of us. We can't wait to bring you all of our new music, and we're already excited about furnishing you with all the additional details.
See you soon!
Love as always,
Matt, Rach, Tony, Jake and Keith xxxxx
The Adventure Continues!
26th November 2012
We are absolutely delighted to announce that on the 12th December at The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton, we will be joining the mighty It Bites and the wonderful Alan Reed on stage for what will now be our last gig of the year. It's no secret that we love It Bites and have done so for a long time so, when we were offered this gig last week, we just jumped at the chance.
Even though we will only be on stage for a shorter than usual time, we intend to bring a little splash of Christmas to the proceedings plus an awful lot of rock and fun. Can't wait to see you all there and we can't wait to see It Bites and Alan Reed live. Game on! xxxxx
Adventures So Far...
12th November 2012
Evening all. Things are very busy behind the scenes here at TR HQ especially booking a tour for 2013. We will have more news on that very soon, we promise. Also, everyone has gone straight back in to their respective studios and started writing new material, which we are starting to get very excited about all ready.
We have just been sent this from Cherry Red and are so pleased with it. Between July and up to and including September 2012, we were the 15th highest selling band on their roster. That is just incredible considering the album wasn't released until the later part of September. We were also the number 1 prog band on the emusic charts plus, we got into the top 10 for Radio Caroline too - bonus. Just amazing stuff. Thank you so much for getting behind us, you guys are truly brilliant. The reviews are starting to come through now and so far, the response has just been fantastic!
Catch you all really soon and as soon as we are able to announce the tour dates, you will be the first to know. We plan to make these shows very different from anything we have done before and have something very special planned. Have fun, be good and see you all soon - TR xxxxx
The Past, The Present & The Future...
19th September 2012
Good afternoon one and all. Everything is really kicking off now and we're running to catch up with ourselves. So many things happening and have happened. We started the proceedings with an invite to the PROG Awards at Kew Gardens in London. Man was that something to dine out on. We have never seen so many musical heroes all in one place. Jerry Ewing and his team did an outstanding job of organising such a huge event. We were even sat on the head table, which was a complete riot. Thank you to all who voted for us, it really means the world to us and though we didn't win the category, we know how special we felt because of you. Also, did you see Matt on BBC Breakfast? Just typical he had to have a drink in his hands as always. We're amazed he didn't have some curry there too.
After that, we then headed to our hometown of Cardiff to support the mighty Marillion at Cardiff University. The audience and the reaction from you was just mind blowing! It just made the whole evening such an amazing experience and Marillion, well, WOW, what a set and what an album. A huge thank you to them for letting us be a small part of this monumental tour and a special thank you to you all for literally making us feel on top of the world.
The tour in support of our album kicks off in The Netherlands, with Touchstone next week (27th September) which will see us play Germany for the first time and then, we head back to the UK a little later in October for 6 shows culminating in a support with FISH at his convention in Leamington Spa. We cannot wait to get out there, play some new songs from the album and to catch up with many new and old friends. We are very lucky to be able to do this and to have you guys with us on this mad but wonderful journey.
This leads us nicely on to the big news we want to share with you today. We are very honoured and happy to announce that The Reasoning have been confirmed for the inaugural "Hard Rock Hell Prog Festival" which is taking place in the impressive setting of the MAGNA Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham on the 6th and 7th April 2013. HRH have been putting on incredible festivals for several years now and they are always an amazing experience so to have them put on a Prog event in conjunction with PROG magazine is just bloody wonderful.
We will be playing on Saturday 6th April on the Main Stage alongside many awesome bands. We're not sure what time yet but more details will be released as we have them. For more details on tickets, line up and accommodation etc. go to -

Adventures In Neverland Preorder
11th August 2012
The past couple of years have been an extraordinary journey in every sense: with all of us being tested to the absolute limit. Nevertheless, in the face of much soul searching from us all, we closed ranks, talked about many things and found the strength to get up off the floor and to write and record what we believe to be our most adventurous, exciting and dynamic album to date. We are therefore delighted to announce that our fourth full-length album - Adventures In Neverland - is now completed and ready to order via our new record label Esoteric Antenna. This CD is brought to you with our heartfelt emotional investment, and encapsulates our collective journey to this point in time. Given that it was for some while rather uncertain as to whether this collection of songs would ever actually be recorded (yet alone released), for us to be able to sit here, listen to, and enjoy our new songs - and tell you about them - means the world to every single member of this band.
We're not going to try and explain everything about this album, because, as always, the proof is in the listening! We can however say that if you want ROCK - you'll find it here! If you want Prog - you've got it here too! If you want bombastic riffs, you've most definitely got those! If you want beautiful music and vocals to lose yourself in, it's all here! And, if you want melodic hooks and the kinds of earworms that will stay in your head for a long time to come… guess what: you've got it! We might even have thrown in a little funk and fusion for good measure: but you'll just have to wait and see.
Suffice it to say, we haven't held back with this album, and we can quite categorically state that it marks a huge step forward for the band musically and in every other sense, too. Even the band name now has its own unique, distinctive typeface. The artwork, as you can see, was brought to you by a wonderful artist called Dan Powell, and we really believe it is our most striking piece of artwork yet, even though we've had some great album covers over the years. This is a whole new Reasoning: but, of course, we haven't lost sight of what brought us here and why we started this crazy journey. Our history has made us who we are, and has motivated us to be the very best we can be.
This is also the longest album we have recorded, and contains 10 songs, coming in at just over 56 minutes. The track listing is as follows -
Hyperdrive
The Omega Point
The Glass Half
Stop The Clock
Otherworld
End Of Days
No Friend Of Mine
Threnody
The Forest Of Hands and Teeth
Adventures In Neverland
It can be pre-ordered now directly from Cherry Red at the following link -
http://www.cherryred.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=3812
The CD will also be available at ALL of our forthcoming shows, and the official release date Worldwide and in all major retail outlets is the 24th September 2012. We will be releasing some snippets of songs over the coming weeks. Check this site, our Facebook page and our Soundcloud page for those exclusive previews.
So there you go dear friends, a whole new adventure begins and we can't wait to share that with you! Our first gig for this album will be on the 9th September in Cardiff, with the amazing Marillion. We then head out on the road with our rock buddies Touchstone at the end of September, heading to Europe and then back to the UK in October for more fun and madness. We then round off the first leg of the tour by supporting FISH at his convention in Leamington at the end of October. After that, more touring is planned, and work has already begun on new Reasoning material. It's going to be hectic, but it's going to be wonderful.
Thank you to everyone that has stuck by us, and a very warm welcome to those who will hopefully join us. Thank you also to those who have been and gone: we hope to see you again one day in the future. Enjoy the album as much as we have enjoyed recording it. You are all wonderful.
Love as always,
Matt, Rach, Tony, Jake and Keith xxxxx
Love as always,

Adventures In The City Tour
11th May 2012
Two of the UK's most rapidly rising progressive/melodic hard rock acts TOUCHSTONE and THE REASONING have announced that they are to join forces for a co-headline tour of Europe this autumn.
The ten-date "Adventures In The City" tour unites the two bands as The Reasoning prepare their new studio album 'Adventures In Neverland' for September 2012, and Touchstone celebrate the release of their back catalogue and new album 'The City Sleeps', which entered the UK rock charts at No.36 on its release at the end of 2011. It will also mark an important year for the bands, having both recently signed new record deals (Touchstone with German label SPV/Steamhammer and The Reasoning with Cherry Red's dynamic front-line label Esoteric Antenna).
Both Touchstone and The Reasoning have enjoyed a busy and successful eighteen months after each being asked to open the inaugural High Voltage Festival in London's Victoria Park playing alongside legendary acts such as ELP, ZZ Top and Black Label Society. This year alone, both bands' respective front women Kim Seviour and Rachel Cohen have been awarded plaudits for being amongst the top ten female vocalists of 2011 by Classic Rock Presents Prog Magazine and the Classic Rock Society readers and critics.
The two bands are excited to be heading out on the road together for what will be their biggest headline tour yet:
"It's been nearly half a decade since the last time we shared a stage with The Reasoning" explains Touchstone guitarist Adam Hodgson. "Getting to play out in Europe properly as well as in the UK with some great friends will be amazing."
The Reasoning's bassist Matt Cohen comments:
"Touchstone and The Reasoning have developed so much as artists over the years so the versions you see today are lean, mean rocking machines with more fire and drive than ever before. We are going to bring you one hell of a gig experience! The New Avengers of Prog are coming to a city near you in 2012 so join the adventure!"

Album 4 Title Revealed
10th May 2012
We promised you excellent news from The Reasoning HQ… and here's the first instalment. This is, of course, the tip of a very exciting iceberg in terms of our plans for this year and beyond, so do keep your eyes and ears peeled over the next few days.
Today, we are delighted to bring you the title of our brand new studio album, which is of course due for release this September via our label Esoteric/Antenna. The album will be called
Whilst this title captures the dynamics and complexities of the album's musical and lyrical content, it also rather aptly symbolises the professional and spiritual journey that we have undertaken as a band over the last couple of years.
So: there it is! Exhilarating times are upon us, and we'll be back here tomorrow with more important updates.

5th May 2012
Do you fancy hearing Reasoning material in a stripped down, intimate fashion? If so, then your desire can be gratified! Rach & Tony are venturing out to play some acoustic shows, with the intention of showing off Reasoning tunes in a form where nothing can be hidden and the songs can speak for themselves; first on the Play List is THE RAILWAY Venue in BROMLEY CROSS, BOLTON on THURSDAY MAY 24th.
Situated right next door to Bromley Cross railway station, The Railway Venue is a good sized pub that regularly hosts quality live music; favourite UK haunt of Dan Reed (Dan Reed Network, obviously) for his solo gigs, the venue is welcoming, serves reasonably priced drinks and offers a great setting to see any band in a live situation. On a Thursday night, the pace is less frantic then their often sold out weekends and Rach & Tony will be looking to provide a more chilled out vibe for your entertainment.
Tickets are priced at £5 each (max 4 per order), and can be obtained below. Alternatively, some should be available on the door on the night. So, if the idea of a more sophisticated night out appeals, come down and see us!

***STOP PRESS***
2nd May 2012
As you will have observed from our recent posts and updates, things here at The Reasoning's HQ are shaping up very nicely indeed for a busy 2012 and beyond. We've recently announced with great excitement our inclusion on the forthcoming Marillion tour: and we are absolutely honoured to have been invited to open for them on their first UK date this Autumn. Since this show - at the Great Hall, Cardiff University on 9th September - is not only in our home town, but also at Rach's place of PhD study, this is a double delight! Marillion have of course been truly wonderful to us over the years, and we're thrilled to have been offered another opportunity to share the stage with such a fantastic band.
Our next piece of Big News is this: the appointment of a new guitarist to The Reasoning fold. We have been incredibly privileged to have played with (the wonderful and talented) Owain, and our search for someone who might bring a similar dedication, enthusiasm and musicianship was always going to be a tricky one… not to mention that this quest was also wholly unexpected and unforeseen.
We have taken the time to explore many different possible options - in the shape of several fantastic guitar players - and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all involved. One of these musicians connected with us and our music especially well, and we hope that you will join us in welcoming Keith Hawkins to the band. We are extremely confident that Keith will make a new and exciting contribution to The Reasoning, and to our ongoing journey together whilst, importantly, remaining sensitive to the music and the experiences that we have already shared.
Brand new band promo images are being organised as we write but, by way of a sneaky preview, here's a picture of the man himself, surrounded by a few of his friends!
Further news on our album and forthcoming tour plans will be released very soon, so please do keep your ears and eyes wide open for announcements. We look forward to seeing you all again in the very near future: it really has been too long. Whilst we press on with our work, Owain will of course remain in our hearts and minds - and we will continue in our efforts to bring him home to his family and loved ones.
Keep the faith.
Much love as always,
Matt, Rach, TT, Jake and Keith xxxxx
A word from Keith:
I'm honoured to be asked to take on guitar duties in The Reasoning and am looking forward to contributing to the band's future sound. With enjoyment, I have listened to the development of the band's music from "Awakening" to the present "And Another Thing....... EP" and I will endeavour to play the many different styles in back catalogue as faithfully as possible. It's going be a blast playing future live dates with such a talented group of musicians and I can't wait to see you out there on tour soon.
The Reasoning: Then, Now and After.
18th April 2012
Hello, dear friends. The past month or so has been an extremely difficult and emotional time for us as a band: we have experienced many different and very powerful emotions which have, on several occasions, been nothing short of overwhelming. Understandably, during this period, business pretty much came to a stop for The Reasoning, as we talked things through together, shared our feelings, and offered support to one another, trying to assess where - and how - we might go from here. This statement is the result of our many thoughts and discussions, and we offer it to you so that we can let you know first-hand about our onward intentions.
Deciding how we were to progress - if, indeed, we were going to progress at all - has not been an easy task for us. This year began on such an incredibly high note: we secured a brand new record deal in January, whilst February saw the release of The Reasoning's first new material in two years, with the And Another Thing....... EP. We had been meeting regularly, and all five of us were in high spirits, excited about the future of the band, and ready to take on all of the challenges that 2012 might have in store. Our delight at having begun a new working relationship with Esoteric was tangible, and we were all revelling in a renewed passion and energy.
When Owain first told us about his personal situation later that same month, we felt for him very deeply and did, of course, what any good friends would do under the circumstances: all of us rallied around him immediately. We did everything in our power to protect him, giving him all the time and space that he needed to get himself better and, after much discussion with Owain and with his family, we arranged for him to take 3 months respite from the band. This was mutually agreed to be a temporary arrangement: a means of ensuring that no additional pressures and demands would be felt by Owain, given his already delicate situation. We spoke with him on many occasions, talked in depth about his feelings regarding this plan, and kept him up to date with progress on the new album. Owain gave his blessing to us all with regards the continuation of the album, since he was fully aware of the fact that we have a contract to fulfill and, further, that he wasn't at that stage able to help us meet the deadline for completion.
Our last conversation with Owain was on Friday March 9th : the day before he disappeared. This was an open, honest, friendly, and heartfelt chat, as always - punctuated as usual with moments of his wonderful sense of humour. There was no indication whatsoever during this conversation of that which was to come: we simply signed off as usual, and arranged to talk again the following week with a view to meeting up properly in early June to discuss whether he felt ready to return to the fold. There are simply no words capable of describing the distress that we felt the following day when Lisa (Owain's girlfriend) called to tell us that he had gone missing.
You are all aware of the story from that point until the present moment and, to that end, we would like to say a huge thank you for the amazing support and love that you have shown: not only to us as a band, but also to Lisa, her children and Owain's family. You really have been quite incredible and it is something that we will never, ever forget.
And so to the future… what does that hold for the band? As we've already stated here, we have talked in much depth with all of the parties involved in this dreadful situation, and have now reached a conclusion. We dearly hope that you will understand the decision-making processes behind it.
The first thing that's important here is a consideration of what Owain would want us to do at this point: and of how he would feel about the future of the band if he were here to tell us. Owain adores his role in The Reasoning - a sentiment he expressed often - and he had been becoming increasingly more involved with the writing side of things, which was wonderful to see and hear. Like all of us, he had been extremely excited about the prospect of a brand new album and touring properly with a real label behind us. For these (and many other more personal) reasons, then, we have decided to continue The Reasoning's journey onward. We are currently searching for a new guitarist to join the band on a permanent basis, but it must be emphasized that this is not an attempt to replace Owain: something we cannot and do not wish to do. Rather, we are now looking for someone who will bring something new to the music, someone with their own identity, but who is sensitive to the band's history, and will therefore be able to help translate Owain's parts passionately when we perform live. We will not be holding "open" auditions, but will be searching for the right person away from the public eye, and out of the spotlight. When we have found this person, we will make a separate announcement as soon as we are ready to do so. We feel very strongly (as do Owain's family and friends) that, wherever he is, he does not want us to call it a day, and he knows what the band means to all of you.
Esoteric have been incredibly supportive throughout all of this, giving us plenty of space and time to come to this conclusion. We will be recording the album in June and it will still be released, as scheduled, in September/October of this year via the Esoteric label. Our aim is to secure contributions to the album from several different guitarists although, when we resume live performances later this year, a new permanent member will take the stage alongside us. Just prior to Owain's disappearance, we had begun making tour plans for Autumn 2012, and we're pleased to say that those plans are still going ahead. Whilst we can't give you any more news at this stage, we will say that there are some very exciting plans in the pipeline, and also that the tour will cover both the UK and Europe. As soon as we have more details, you will be the first to know.
So, dear friends, there you have it. We're fully aware that some of you will support our decision, and that others will question it. We respect your thoughts, feelings and opinions either way, and can only hope that you appreciate just how difficult the last few months have been for all involved. None of our decisions were made lightheartedly, and not without a great deal of soul searching, heartache and tears. The experience has brought the four of us much closer together as we move forward, never, ever losing sight of our dear friend Owain. His legacy with The Reasoning is, and will always be, safe and we are proud to have had the privilege to laugh, cry and play together, and to share some very special moments with him during the past four years.
Our keenest hope is that Owain will be found, or that he decides to come home of his own accord to his family and loved ones very soon. This is an issue far more important than the future of the band and, whilst his time with The Reasoning has been a very meaningful part of his life, his safe return to his family and loved ones far outweighs either of these things.
Owain: we love you, and we always will. You know where we are, and we will always be here when you decide to come back to us all. This is for you and if you are reading and/or watching, thank you for everything. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our journey to date, and for helping us to forge so many happy and hilarious memories. If it's ok with you, we're going to make some new memories: ones that we want to share with you later down the line. You are always in our hearts.

Gig Update
1st April 2012
We hope that you've been enjoying this amazing Spring weather over the past week: t'is good for the spirit indeed.
This statement is offered in heartfelt response to the many, many emails and messages that we have received recently, asking whether The Reasoning will still be performing at next month's Esoteric showcase gig, which is taking place at The Underworld in London on Saturday April 14th.
As you are aware, the last few weeks have been terribly difficult for all of us, and we have already issued an apology for the delays that customers have experienced in relation to merchandise orders. Sales services have now resumed, and the backlog will hopefully be cleared before too long, so thank you for your patience.
We WILL still be performing at this show, and will be opening the evening as planned. Whilst our thoughts, of course, are very much with Owain and his family, we remain absolutely committed to making sure that this event goes ahead: especially given that many of you have already purchased tickets. Indeed, as per our press release issued in March, our good friend and musical peer Dave Foster will be joining the band for this show. We will be issuing an official press release shortly afterwards, which will provide details of The Reasoning's schedule for the remainder of 2012.
Thank you all, as always, for your incredible love, support and encouragement. Quite simply, we couldn't do it without you… and we will continue to do it for you. There are memories yet to be made.
Love and light,
Matt, Rach, TT, Jake and Comet xx

The new EP has landed at Comet Towers!
24th February 2012
Hello gang, we hope all is well? We just wanted to share this with you if you don't mind? And Another Thing....... EP has landed at Comet Towers (as you can see). This is a very poignant / significant occasion for us, because 5 years ago exactly our first Comet Music release - Awakening - was delivered to us with much anticipation. Now, 5 years on, and with our excitement levels higher than they have ever been before, we have taken delivery of the last release through Comet Music and we are very, very proud of it.
What an amazing, sometimes bumpy - yet ultimately fulfilling - journey it has been... but the best part of this has been "meeting" all of you, and finding that we genuinely have the most loyal friends that enjoy sharing this journey with us. Please enjoy And Another Thing....... as much as we enjoyed creating, recording and playing it: this really is for you. The next time you hear from us musically we will have a brand new home in the shape of the wonderful Esoteric / Antenna label who will release album 4 later this year. Thank you one and all, we loves ya loads.

***STOP PRESS***

The Reasoning regret to announce that, due to illness, our guitarist - and dear friend - Owain will be taking several months' respite from the band. Our love and thoughts are with Owain and his family, and can we please ask that you respect their privacy at this time. We look forward to his return following his recovery.
In the meantime, we are very fortunate to be able to welcome our good friend Dave Foster (Mr So and So) into the fold, who will be standing in temporarily on guitar duties for The Reasoning during Owain's recuperation. Dave will be performing with us at our forthcoming showcase gig in London this April, and will also feature on our new album, which is due for release this year.
As always, we are hugely grateful for all of your support, enthusiasm and understanding: you mean the world to us. Despite these unhappy circumstances, we would like to reassure you that our plans for 2012 will still go ahead. Writing for album 4 is nearing completion, and is still on schedule for release via Esoteric/Antenna in September. More news on that in due course.
Owain, we're thinking of you: get well soon.
Much love,
Rach, Tony, Matt and Jake xxxx

EP Pre-Orders Now Available
1st February 2012
Hello, dear friends, we hope that all is well with you. So... (finally) our brand new EP, entitled And Another Thing....... is recorded, mixed and ready for mastering. This is somewhat of a milestone for The Reasoning, since it will be the last of our products to be released via our independent label Comet Music. This makes it a very special CD for us, not least because it marks the end of an era and the beginning of a whole new one. The EP is also the first release that's fully representative of our (now nicely established) 5 piece line-up: all band members have contributed to the song-writing for the first time, making it a real team effort. We're SO excited about you hearing these tracks!
So: how do you get hold of it? We have decided to do one last pre-order: this time, you'll be able to get the CD a week before the official release date (12th March 2012), and the first 500 copies will be signed by the band. We have kept the price as low as possible, and pre-orders will be separated into territories - UK / Europe / Rest Of World. This is so that we can be fair when it comes to the pricing of postage, etc.
Anyway, we suppose you want to know the track listing... which is as follows:
1) One By One
2) Apophenia
3) Pale Criminal
4) 21 Grams
All the songs were produced by Matt and mixed by Matt and James Kennedy (who fronts a band called Kyshera: do check them out). In our opinion, these songs sound fantastically fresh and alive - and there are a few little surprises in store as well. We'll be making available a sample clip of all the songs sometime around mid February, so watch this space.
So there we have it, folks. The Reasoning on Comet Music is no more! The next time we release new material, it will be via Esoteric / Cherry Red. In the 7 year operation of Comet Music, we have released 3 studio albums, 1 single, 1 DVD, 1 live album - and now we finish this in style with an EP. A full set! Comet Music will now concentrate on signing other bands, and will post news on how to submit demos etc. in the very near future. For now, it's back to album 4 and making all the exciting plans we have in store come to fruition.
Thanks for all your incredible support during the "Comet" years and here is to you and the future. See you on the other side.
Love as always,
Rach, Owain, Tony, Matt and Jake xxxxxxx
Happy New Year... STOP PRESS!
5th January 2012
The Reasoning are delighted to announce that they have signed a worldwide deal with Esoteric / Cherry Red for their new album which, we can exclusively reveal, is due for release in September 2012. Working independently over the last few years, the band has established an excellent fan-base in the UK, and their music has been critically acclaimed. There now begins a new and exciting journey for The Reasoning, enabling them to reach a far wider audience, and to build significantly upon the success that they have achieved to date.
Much of the new album (title to be announced in due course!) is already written, and the next few months will be spent hard at work in the studio. There are plans for plenty of live shows - both in the UK and much further afield - throughout the year. The band are very excited to be working with this dynamic and forward-thinking label, and would like to thank them for this fantastic opportunity that has been offered.
As always, The Reasoning are committed to the progress and development of the music for which they are so passionate. The future is bright, and the band look forward to sharing it with all of you. Thank you for your enduring love, support and encouragement: see you on the road very soon, with album #4!

And a word from Esoteric
ESOTERIC RECORDINGS ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF A FRONT LINE LABEL FOR 2012
Cherry Red Records' imprint Esoteric Recordings has announced the launch of a new imprint dedicated to new, front line album releases. Since its launch in 2007, Esoteric Recordings has gone from strength to strength as a catalogue label specialising in the genres of Progressive, Psychedelic and Classic Rock. Along with Esoteric's sister labels Atomhenge (home of the Hawkwind catalogue between 1976 - 1997), Manticore and "Kraut Rock" label Reactive, the imprint has built a catalogue of 300 titles and has worked with artists such as Jack Bruce, Barclay James Harvest, Tony Banks, Bill Nelson, P.F.M., Ray Thomas (of the Moody Blues), Tangerine Dream and many more. In April 2011 Esoteric released the new studio album, "A Grounding in Numbers", by the legendary Van Der Graaf Generator to great acclaim and success. Esoteric Recordings label manager Mark Powell said; "The success of the Van Der Graaf Generator album brought many new album projects to our door, leading us to look into the feasibility of launching a front line label. As a result, we are taking the step of establishing a label specifically for new, front line albums, ESOTERIC ANTENNA".
The first release on ESOTERIC ANTENNA will be a new edition of the album "DIVING BELL" by Oxford based band SANGUINE HUM on March 30th 2012, which will also include several new tracks. This will be followed by the release of the new album by SQUACKETT, the collaborative project from YES bass guitarist CHRIS SQUIRE and former GENESIS guitarist STEVE HACKETT in May. ESOTERIC ANTENNA will continue to champion the "new guard" of Progressive Rock by releasing new studio albums by PANIC ROOM in late June and THE REASONING in September. Legendary progressive acts will be further represented by the release of "PARACHUTE REBORN" in late April, a superb, newly recorded revisiting of the classic Pretty Things album "PARACHUTE" with additional material, by the XPT's (a band featuring original Pretty Things members WALLY WALLER, JON POVEY, PETE TOLSON and SKIP ALAN).
ESOTERIC ANTENNA's schedule will continue in the Autumn with a new album from JOHN LEES' BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST expected in October (accompanied by a UK tour to be announced shortly and further European concerts). Further releases by classic Progressive acts are also expected in 2012. Powell added; "I'm pleased and proud to say that we have an exciting roster of releases planned for 2012 which draws on the best of the up and coming new wave of Progressive rock groups and also some new material by legendary artists with a wonderful recorded legacy. We are honoured to have such a fine line-up of artists to launch the first year of Esoteric Antenna".
In addition to the schedule planned for Esoteric Antenna, the Esoteric Recordings imprint will continue to reissue albums of classic Progressive and Psychedelic Rock, including a series of releases from TODD RUNDGREN's personal recorded archive, whilst COCTEAU DISCS will release further titles from BILL NELSON's back catalogue and Esoteric Reactive will continue with its reissue programme of TANGERINE DREAM titles. Further details will be announced closer to release dates.
Merry Christmas
23rd December 2011
Well, that's another year gone... and what a year it has been for us! So much has happened that, on occasions, it has been hard to keep up with all of the events that have unfolded. We will say that everything that has developed this year - and over the past 18 months - has produced a happy, shiny and very focused Reasoning. We end 2011 with a wealth of brand new material, several great gigs (and some truly fantastic reviews!) under our belts, and a drive, determination and positivity that we have never experienced before. We enter 2012 with extremely exciting and positive plans laid out before us: all will be revealed in the New Year, we promise :o)
It goes without saying that we couldn't do any of this without your enduring love and support, and your amazing enthusiasm - for this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 2012 is going to be dedicated to you all. Thanks again, have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful, happy and successful New Year. You all ROCK and we can't wait to bring you new music and new adventures throughout the year and beyond. Get those voices in shape and those bouncing shoes on... you're going to need them.
Love as always,
Rach, Owain, Tony, Matt, Jake and of course Comet xxxxxx
P.S. The EP "And Another Thing....." Is going to be mixed in early January and released in February / March 2012 as a download and CD as many of you want a physical product. This will be only available exclusively through Comet Music, so watch this space xx

The Reasoning Press Release
7th August 2011
Once upon a time... well... in May 2011, to be exact, The Reasoning made their first collective journey to the USA to perform at the much hallowed and loved ROSfest. Many things happened during our stay and, as the age old adage goes, "what goes on the road stays on the road". We don't always respect that, of course!
Anyway, much fun was had, not least the stupidity of Owain and Matt who decided to try the "Hottest Sauce In The World" and (quite literally) almost killed themselves in the process. We have all of this on video, which will be released via Comet TV soon enough. A few more useful things happened, too, because our concert was recorded... and you'll be glad to know that we are to release our first official live album (this is not a bootleg!), entitled Live in the USA: The Bottle Of Gettysburg. The album will contain 80 minutes of said show, and the track listing is as follows:
Intro
Diamonds & Leather
Fallen Angels
The Nobody Effect
Shadows Of The Mind
The Thirteenth Hour
How Far To Fall?
Chasing Rainbows
14
Dark Angel
Aching Hunger
A release date is being set for November, so we'll keep you updated: confirmation of the exact date coming soon!
It doesn't stop there though, naturally! As you are aware, we are currently working on our fourth studio album (more details about that soon as well), for which we have over four hours of material at the moment. We're very excited about deciding exactly what to include on the album itself - and those of you who attended our recent shows will have heard two of the new tracks, entitled The Omega Point and No Friend Of Mine - the latter already being described as one of the best tracks we've written to date...
We've also written some new songs that we didn't feel would "fit" with the emerging theme and feel of album four, but were simply too good to keep to ourselves. For this reason, we will also be releasing a four-song EP this December, which will be available for download only. Each song is written by a different member of the band, with all lyrics and melodies written by Rachel, as always. The EP is called And Another Thing.... and will be released via Comet Music. We'll have the full track listing and some artwork available for your perusal soon, so do watch this space.
In the meantime, we intend to release Album 4 during the first quarter of 2012, and so you can look forward to a good 60-70 minutes of brand new material! Exciting times ahead! We're making tour arrangements for next year too, and can't wait to get out and bring the new stuff to your good selves.
See you all soon - get ready for some serious rocking!
Love as always,
Rach, Owain, Tony, Matt & Jake xxxxx
6th July 2011
Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, The Dave (Dave Foster of Mr So & So) will unfortunately no longer be playing The Borderline gig on the 22nd July with The Reasoning.
However, we are extremely pleased to announce that "Pete & Rob's Musical Whimsy" (Pete Trewavas of Marillion / Transatlantic & Robin Boult of Howard Jones / FISH) have kindly offered to step in as our very special guests with their wonderful acoustic set.
It is a real honour to have them share a stage with us. This promises to be a night to remember and we are so looking forward to seeing you all and sharing some laughs, beers and music.
If you haven't got a ticket yet, get them while you can at "BUY BORDERLINE TICKETS HERE". See you soon and take care.

27th May 2011
Good afternoon folks. Well, we have just come back from a very cool and fun trip to the USA where we played at the wonderful ROSfest festival. The whole experience was just amazing from the organisation through to the playing. Everyone was so friendly, enthusiastic and the back stage crew were some of the most professional people we have ever had the pleasure to work with. We made many new friends and we hope to get back to the US with the new album. What a place and what a reaction. Thank you George and all involved at ROSfest for giving us a million wonderful memories to cherish. We will have a full ROSfest report for you soon and a full Comet TV edition of our trip including Owain & Matt doing the US version of their curry challenge that involved the hottest sauce in the world and some jalapeño beef jerky. It's messy.
So now it's time to get back to album 4 and the other little ideas we have in the pipeline. Firstly though, we are pleased to announce some gig dates for 2011. We are missing the road and you guys so much, that we have decided to get it together, book some gigs and start rocking again. It has been too long. Anyway, here are the first confirmed dates below and we have quite a few more to book, so when they are confirmed, you will be the first to know. These set of dates will also be the first time that we will be introducing new songs from album 4 and also songs from the other albums that we haven't played in a while. The Cardiff date is going to be our very special Christmas show and we hope to have some very special and fun things for you. More news and other developments coming your way very soon! Look forward to seeing you all soon and stay in touch. Take care.
Love as always,

Hello one and all and we hope you have recovered from you extended Bank Holidays and wedding parties. Some of you know that we are busy in the studio at the moment getting pre-production demos done for our all new album 4. Things are progressing very well and we are getting extremely excited about what is coming out of our speakers.
During the "Dark Angel" Sessions, we decided to have a break from the studio and play some live gigs to keep our hand in and we called it "The Cabin Fever Tour". Well, we have decided to do it again and called it "The Cabin Fever II" tour.
We are pleased to announce that on Thursday 21st July 2011 we will be playing at The Fleece in Bristol with special guests Also Eden and on Friday 22nd July 2011 we will be playing The Borderline in London with special guest The Dave (Mr So&So fame). These gigs will see us presenting new material and some of our big "hits" and all at inflation busting prices. So, get into the Summer swing of things and join us for lots of laughs, stacks of music and pleanty of beer, wine, spirits or whatever takes you fancy.
Catch you soon and be good.
Love as always,
The Reasoning xxxxx
5th April 2011
Hello all and I hope you are well? As you can see, we now have a rather wonderfully shiny, new website. We decided that in the lead up to album 4 we would give everything a complete makeover and in the process tie in all our associated sites such as our forum, YouTube etc, with the same theme so you always know that you are at an official Reasoning page.
To celebrate the launch of the new site, we have decided to lay on a very special shop sale for you all. All CDs are now only £5.00 and our DVD and T-Shirt are both priced at a ridiculous £8.00 These are inflation busting prices that will hopefully add a little extra sunshine to your day. Grab a bargain while you can. This sale will only last until 1) the end of April when prices go back to normal and / or 2) when stock runs out.
Now for a quick update for you on album 4. We have already done extensive writing at our respective studios over the past couple of months plus, we had a 4 day writing session here in Cardiff in March. Out of that session, we got some incredible ideas that have us very excited. In essence, we have 4 songs in their raw state which are now in the hands of Rachel who is busy writing some incredible lyrics and melodies. This week, we head to Colchester for the next writing session, which again, is for 4 days. After that we will start constructing the album ready for recording. The drum session has been booked for early July with the rest of the instruments being recorded in July too.
The new material really is sounding wonderful with everyone contributing making this the first album to be written as a complete band. We cannot wait to get the songs out to you and more importantly, play them live. We are currently booking tours and exploring many new and exciting avenues to get our music out there so, as soon as we have news on all these things you will be the first to know. Rest assured we will be covering a lot of ground in the coming months and years. On top of that, our first gig of 2011 at ROSfest in the USA, will feature at least 2 new songs from the album. 22nd March 2011
Good evening one and all. The sun is shining, life is busy, music is flowing and life feels rather good. So, what news do we have for you? Well, basically, LOADS! There is way too much to cover here so we shall start with the all important gig news today. As some of you may remember, a couple of years ago during the recording of "Dark Angel" we decided to head out for a couple of dates to clear our heads of the studio and named it "The Cabin Fever" tour. Well, we're doing it again. On Friday 22nd July 2011 we have booked The Borderline in London to play a special show for you all where we will be playing some new material from our forthcoming 4th studio album. We also thought it might act as a nice pre-High Voltage warm up show to get you in the mood for the week-ends festivities of rock. To cap it all off, we are very lucky to have along as our very special guest, The Dave (Dave Foster of Mr So & So / The Wishing Tree) who will be playing music from his solo album "Gravity". Not only is he a lovely guy and a great friend but he is also an awesome guitarist that will have you dribbling when you hear and see him play.
Tickets are now on sale from the Borderline website and are priced at an inflation busting £10.00 in advance and £12.00 on the door.
BUY BORDERLINE TICKETS HERE - 22nd JULY 2011.
Get them while you can and come and share a night of music, laughs and, quite obviously, beer. See you all then and hopefully we will be announcing one or two more shows soon. Be the first to hear all new Reasoning material before they are officially released later in the year. Take care.
Love as always,

Hello everyone and I hope you are well. After a lot of messing about, we have decided to close our forum. This forum has been getting hundreds of spam applications and we have been spending all our time trying to figure out how we stop it and also, deleting all the spam. We have come to the conclusion that phpBB2 is not capable anymore of dealing with this and the only way to combat it is to delete this forum and set up a new one.
Now, we are aware that the forum format is slowly becoming less popular because of all the other forms of social networks available but, we at The Reasoning, feel that forums still have a place for the people who want to keep up to date with us and have an option to discuss openly, all things related to the band and any other topic as well. Therefore from midnight tonight, this forum will no longer be in operation but you will be able to join in the chat at our new home which is http://thereasoning.forumotion.co.uk
This is a much more secure site and looks an awful lot better too. We hope many of you will join us there and continue the chat. We love hearing from you; talking to you and we promise that the band will have a more visible presence than ever before.
Thanks for a great couple of years on our old forum and here is to many amazing talks. We look forward to the next step with you as our travel companions. Take care and lots of news coming soon. Take care.
Love as always,
Rach, Owain, Tony, Matt & Jake xxxxx

We are so incredible pleased and proud of the fact that we made the Top 20 albums of 2010 in the Classic Rock Presents Prog recent poll. Number 12 in fact and among incredible company to boot. We were also in a lot of the top 20 for the writers / contributors - an amazing honour and a great way to end a superb 2010. We can't wait for 2011 to arrive when we intend to up our game in every respect.
We also had a wonderful comment made by Malcolm Dome on the Classic Rock blog page that went like this -
"The Reasoning proved at High Voltage earlier this year that they're a class act. Now you can see the young prog band's set that day on the DVD Highway To High Voltage (Comet Music). You know what? They really were damn good that day. The band also enhance their growing reputation with acoustic album Acoustically Speaking (Comet Music), proving that the combination of quality musicianship and good songs is a winner."
We also had an e-mail in from from Jeff Collins of Sunshine FM Radio, it seems we are in their Top 40 albums of 2010 and to make things even better, we made number 5 behind Black Country Communion (1), Iron Maiden (2), Slash (3) & The Last Republic (4) - WOW!! That is just incredible and we are so, so happy
This is what he said -
"Prog-Rock giants in the making! The Reasoning are destined to break into the mainstream with their gorgeous vocals and haunting emotional songs that simply rock...."
See you really soon and thank you for being so wonderful. we are very, very lucky.
