Live DVD from High Voltage

We had the most amazing time at High Voltage last month and have been overwhelmed with the response we've received. We really want to thank everyone who came to see us (and you came in your thousands!) for making it such a special day. In fact, we were so delighted with how it went that we've decided to release the performance on DVD. It'll be packed full of extras as well so we definitely think that this will be one for the collection. We're already working on it so watch this space for more details.

In fact, speaking of High Voltage, keep an eye out for The Reasoning in "High Voltage 2010", a TV programme showing highlights from the festival on Sky Arts 1 and Sky Arts 1 HD at 9pm Saturday 28th August, and repeated Sunday 29th August at 3pm. More details here

17th July 2010

We do apologise for not being in touch for a little while but things at TR HQ have been busier than ever. Obviously with the lead up to High Voltage and the release of "Acoustically Speaking", time seems to have just flown by.  We are due to get the delivery of "Acoustically Speaking" later this week.  All pre-order sales will be posted out immediately with the packaging already done, so we just need the CDs and all is go.  When we announced the pre-order, we also asked if people wanted the digital download option and consequently we have had lots of requests from people asking if that option could be made available as well.  Of course, we will do anything we can for you, so it is with great pleasure that we can announce the all new official download site for "Acoustically Speaking" -

http://thereasoning.bandcamp.com

You can purchase the whole album for a mere £5.00 or an individual song for only £0.59. You can download the songs in any format that suits you and all will be of the highest download quality and bit rate.  We hope you enjoy the album as much as we are.

Finally, we cannot wait to see you all next week-end when we play The Peel on Friday 23rd July (Highway To High Voltage) and of course on Sunday 25th July at High Voltage itself where we will be hitting the stage at 12.20pm. The set will be a highly charged rocker with songs from "Awakening", "Dark Angel" and "Adverse Camber". See you there and get ready to ROCK!!!!

20th June 2010

Good afternoon on this glorious Summer day. Just a quick update as beer and BBQ beckon! We wanted to let you know that "Acoustically Speaking" is now at the mix stage and will be completed tomorrow.  After that, the album goes to mastering and then to the pressing plant.  We are well and truly on schedule for the release date of 19th July!!  The album has been selling so well and we can't thank you enough for your amazing and continued support.  Please remember, that although this is a fully produced album, we are limiting the amount we release to only 1,000 copies.  So, if you haven't got yours yet, hurry up and get it before it sells out.  We will be keeping a few back for the Summer "Acoustic" shows but if the stock goes, it's gone unless, of course,  demand is great enough to warrant a new pressing.  Anyway, you may have already seen the picture as you enter this site, but if you haven't, here is the all new and yet another departure in style, artwork for "Acoustically Speaking".  Get that wine chilled, get that BBQ fired up, sit back and chill with some great, mellow, fun and folksy interpretations of Reasoning songs.  Catch you all very soon.

Love as always,

The Reasoning xxxxxxx

1st June 2010

Since the band's inception, they have always enjoyed performing acoustic versions of their songs. On the recent "Adverse Camber" tour, the band introduced "In The Future" and "Sacred Shape" as full acoustic songs. This went down so well that we had many requests from the audience to release these as commercially available studio recordings. Your opinions are of course hugely important to us, and so we've decided to go one better and record an entire album of alternative, acoustic interpretations of many of our best known tracks. The album will be called "Acoustically Speaking".

A few years ago, The Reasoning released a Ltd Edition "Bootleg" series, which sold extremely well . This was released exclusively through the band's website. This time around we are going to do something bigger and better with fully produced / packaged CDs which will be exactly like our full album releases i.e fully mixed, mastered and with new artwork,  but this series will once again be available only via the band's shop and at their concerts: NOT through any other retail outlets.  This series of products will go under "The Top Shelf Collection" moniker.

1,000 copies of "Acoustically Speaking" will be pressed initially, with the release date scheduled for the week commencing 19th July 2010. The first 250 pre-ordered copies will be signed by the band and sent out to you that week.  After that, copies can be purchased here and for the first time at The Peel concert (23rd July 2010) which is our warm up show for our slot at the "High Voltage Festival" on the 25th July 2010. After that we intend to take this album out as part of a mini acoustic tour with further gigs being planned for later in 2010.  Be the first to get your signed copies here now, for only £9.99 plus P&P which includes the UK, Europe and Rest Of World.

This promises to be a very exciting CD with some wonderful and unexpected interpretations of the following songs :-

Within Cold Glass; The Thirteenth Hour; Aching Hunger; Dark Angel; The Nobody Effect; A Musing Dream; In the Future; Sacred Shape and Script Switch Trigger.

If the demand is great enough, we will organise a further pressing but, for now, only 1,000 will be available... so place your order now to avoid disappointment.

11th May 2010

Hello all!

Following hot on the heels of our hugely successful spring tour for Adverse Camber, we write with details of some very exciting news taking shape here at Reasoning HQ. We round off our first flourish of UK shows by opening for Wishbone Ash this Thursday (May 13th) at The Junction in Cambridge. We’ve already received many messages from lots of you lovely people who are planning to join us on the night, and look forward to seeing you there.

The subsequent plan of campaign for the band is multifaceted! Firstly - as many of you are of course aware - we have been granted the fantastic opportunity to perform at the  High Voltage festival in London this July, alongside great bands such as ZZ Top, ELP, Marillion, Opeth, Transatlantic, ASIA and Joe Bonamassa, to name but a few. Full details of the weekend are available at the festival website http://www.highvoltagefestival.com/. By way of a build-up to this great event, we have, in conjunction with The Peel (Kingston, London) http://peelmuzik.webeden.co.uk/#/welcome/4532859755, organised our own special warm-up show on Friday July 23rd, entitled Highway to High Voltage. Supported once again by the wonderful Acoustic Zeppelin, this will consist of an acoustic set and a full electric set by The Reasoning! With a view to kicking off a real party atmosphere for the whole weekend, we’ll also be keeping ticket prices low: at just £7.50 a head, it will be an evening not to be missed!

This leads us nicely to our next announcement. In response to an ever-increasing popular demand, The Reasoning’s second release of 2010 will be a full acoustic album, entitled Acoustically Speaking. Featuring 10 tracks, this will bring you reworked, re-interpreted acoustic versions of tracks from all three of our studio albums. Work in the studio begins on May 17th (next week!), with a view to having the completed product available by the second week in July, in good time for the Highway to High Voltage evening.

Following the festival, we want to bring you as many live acoustic shows in the UK as possible throughout the summer season. This is where we’d like offer all of you the opportunity to get involved…in a big way!

First of all, we will running a competition over the coming weeks, to find a guest percussionist for the album, so please start practicing your tambourine skills! Our second proposition is as follows. If you would like The Reasoning to perform an acoustic show at your local venue/pub, etc, then we want to hear from you right now. Please send your request and your contact details to Graeme at Cathedral Management info@cathedralmanagement.com - and he will tell you exactly what you need to do next.

The remainder of the year promises to be equally busy and action-packed. We’re off on our travels again this September to Europe and Scandinavia (including a couple of shows in Norway with the awesome Pagan’s Mind) and there will be another UK headline tour from The Reasoning in November…for which we have a few surprises in store. As if that weren’t enough, writing for our fourth studio album is already underway, so watch this space for further details.

We look forward to seeing a great deal more of you all this year!

Keep smiling, keep rocking.

Love as always

And So It Begins.......  We cannot quite believe that is has been over 18 months since we released "Dark Angel" and now, here we are with our 3rd full length album, "Adverse Camber".  We started writing this back in October 2009 and set ourselves 6 months to write, record, mix, master and press it - guess what, we did it!!  This album has been the most relaxed, most enjoyable, most fun and most creative experience we have been through since the bands inception and this really shows when you listen to the songs.  "Adverse Camber" is definitely the most cohesive, mature sounding record we have created to date.  Everything you expect from The Reasoning is there - big, lush, multi layered vocals, catchy choruses, driving, rocking riffs, beautiful acoustic sections - you name it, it's there plus a whole lot more and all, just for you.

2010 is going to be an exciting and extremely busy one - we can't wait!  We really want to thank you so much for the quite outstanding, warm and much appreciated support you have continued to show us - we will never forget it!!  You ROCK!! Get ready to bounce through 2010 and let's make this a year to remember.  We think the world of you guys and gals and look forward to seeing you all very soon. Take care.

Love, as always,

Matt, Rach, Dyl, Owain, Tony, Maria and Jake xxxxxxx

18th March 2010

Hello everyone and welcome to our latest update on "Adverse Camber". Here is the latest and very exciting news from Comet central.

With the mixing of Adverse Camber now well underway, The Reasoning are delighted to welcome aboard for the task the wonderful Joe Gibb. Joe brings with him an outstanding talent and a wealth of seriously impressive professional experience, having worked as a producer and engineer on projects involving internationally renowned artists such as Catatonia, Leftfield, Funeral For A Friend, Massive Attack, Jane’s Addiction, Robbie Williams, Travis, The Mission and Depeche Mode…to name but a few!

Joe’s passionate enthusiasm for The Reasoning’s new material is already shining through in the mixes, which are bursting with energy and sound fantastically dynamic: Adverse Camber really does capture The Reasoning magic like never before. The band are incredibly excited at the progress being made, and we can’t wait for you to hear the finished product! We will of course keep you updated with news as this latest stage nears completion.

Speak to you very soon and get ready for something very fresh, exciting, dynamic and rocking.

Take care.

18th January 2010

Hello all! Thank heavens that the snow has gone!! I hope that you didn't get too caught up in it: we did for a while, unfortunately, but have since more than made up for the studio time that we lost.

The writing for album 3 has been an incredibly liberating process and this is very much reflected in the music we’ve created so far. Over the past 2 months, we have locked ourselves away in the studio, simply let things develop naturally…and found that within the space of 3 weeks we had over 30 different ideas already. Whereas, previously, we would often follow each new idea through to completion before moving on to the next song, we decided to take a different, more organic and “fluid” approach to the songwriting process. The results sound fantastic, and the tracks have really started to come alive in a whole new way.

We have completed almost 6 of the songs instrumentally, and will get stuck into the recording phase on the 1st February. Whilst all of this has been going on, Rach has been busy writing some stunning lyrics and melodies. The whole vibe of this new music is very a positive, upbeat one and there are plenty of dynamics, riffs and soaring melody lines. This is very much a Reasoning record in every sense and also a wholly natural progression from Awakening and Dark Angel

We are delighted to announce that this brand new CD will be entitled ADVERSE CAMBER.

Whilst the album will of course be in keeping with the true spirit of The Reasoning, you can nevertheless expect it to look and sound very new and exciting indeed. All things being well, the album will be ready well before we go out on tour in April.

So, that’s our progress to date! Later on in the year, we head back into the studio for album 4, rehearsals for the tour(s), more gigs through 2010 plus some other musical surprises will be coming your way as well. More news on all of that to follow in the near future.

We look forward to catching up with you all very soon and promise to provide a full studio report (with photos, etc) as the whole thing rolls along. Take care and get ready for rock, The Reasoning style(e).

Love as always,

The Reasoning xxxxxxx

26th November 2009

Hi folks!

Well: it’s news time once again! We write with an update, then, to let you know that The Reasoning are travelling at full tilt towards a bombastically busy 2010…and beyond.

We’re incredibly proud of everything we have achieved with both Awakening and Dark Angel. The albums represent wonderful periods of our lives, but we are now in the process of creating something new and exciting, and the new material is shaping up to be our very best yet. Amidst a hectic writing schedule (which thus far has been natural, relaxed, productive and - more than anything else – a lot of fun!), we have also been working steadily on a plan of action for the next year in the life of The Reasoning which would enable us to tour more extensively, and to bring our music to you!

Our plans for 2010 are now consolidated, involve a number of “phases”, and look something like this:

Phase 1

  • ALBUM(S) : Write, record and release album ONE of TWO.  And yes – you read that correctly – we will be releasing two albums in 2010 (with an approximate playing time of 35 - 40 minutes each). The first album will be released in April 2010 and we’ll be taking this on the road throughout April and May. See the "TOUR" section on this site for full details.

Album 1 will not be available prior to the tour. It will be on sale at the shows, pending a general release after the tour.  These dates will showcase Album 1 in its entirety, and the set lists will also include material from Awakening and Dark Angel.

Phase 2

  • Cathedral Management are currently in the process of confirming European tour dates for later in 2010, as well as festival appearances during the summer.

  • Following the release of Album 2 in Autumn 2010, The Reasoning will be hitting the road once more (dates are being confirmed and will be announced shortly) to promote ALL of the new material…with a few oldies thrown in for good measure.

Phase 3

  • An exclusive one-off London show (on a BIG scale!) is planned for December 2010.  As an end-of-year “special”, we’ll be performing all of the new material live…the show will also be recorded (and quite possibly filmed) for a future live album/DVD release in early 2011.

Some fantastic times beckon – and we can’t wait to get stuck in! So there you have it: The Reasoning are coming for you.  The album titles will be released in due course and further announcements will be made very soon.

Thank you as always for all of your support, encouragement, enthusiasm and for your unconditional confidence in us. You mean the world to us all...and we can’t wait to see you soon!

Keep rocking!

7th October 2009

Well I thought it was about time I gave you a little update as to our progress on album 3 plus our plans for 2010. Dylan and myself have been busying ourselves in the brand new studio and getting to grips with that. I have to say, the new system is just fantastic and life is so much easier with this new equipment in place. I won't bore you with all the technical stuff but suffice to say, we can now work at 3 times the speed when laying down ideas Very Happy

This leads nicely on to the state of play with the new songs. We are writing this album in the same spirit and vibe we wrote "Awakening" but with a few changes. Basically, this means Dyl and myself are coming up with the bare bones of the songs but instead of trying to complete songs and trying to layer them with keyboards etc, we are writing / recording basic ideas with just a drum loop, guitar and bass.

In September we came up with 15 solid riffs / verse chords / chorus structures and so far this month we have 4 near complete tracks. It is such a liberating way to work and the ideas are just flowing. We enter the studio at 10am and finish and 6pm. So far, and long may it continue, the process is proving to be exceedingly productive. We both come out of the studio at the end of the day with smiles on our faces 10 feet wide knowing that what we have, so far, really strong ideas that can be developed into something very exciting. The vibe of the songs is a positive one with plenty of hooks, sweet chord movements and recently some very cool, driving riffs Cool

The next stage is to carry on the way we are going for the rest of October and then start constructing the songs so that Rach can add her magic plus see what the rest of the band will bring to the mix. I cannot wait to get these completed and gig them. Which now brings me onto the next subject, touring, 2010 and beyond.

We have a full schedule planned that will take up a lot of 2010 and make it a very exciting time for you guys and gals plus us of course Laughing We will be making a full announcement as to our full plans in late November, after our Christmas show in The Globe (Cardiff) on 21st November (plug, plug), but I can tell you that so far we have 5 confirmed gigs in the book and 3 more to tie up which will take us to all quarters of the country, so watch this space.

Right then, I think that is all for now so more album 3 updates very soon plus much, much more Wink Thanks for tuning in and for being so damn supportive, you all mean the world to us. Speak to you soon and take care.

Love as always,

Matt xx

27th September 2009

Good afternoon all. Just a quick update for you today.  Things are really taking shape for album 3.  Dylan and Matt have been locked away in the studio for the past 3 weeks coming up with demos and I can inform you that the guys are really motoring and coming up with some really melodic, catchy and exciting tunes.  The band have the album title as well and there will be more news and studio photos soon.  Watch this space.

In the mean time there are various other things going on behind the scenes.  Matthew is taking part in a Musicians Union discussion panel tomorrow (28th September) at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff.  It is entitled : Strategies For Success 2 - Create>Communicate>Connect.  This is an ongoing series of conference style events held by the Musicians Union for artists, bands, organisations and individuals looking to discuss and find a way forward in the current music business.  This is a huge honour for Matthew and along with such luminaries as Paul Gray (Eddie & The Hot Rods, UFO, The Damned and currently working for the MU), Steve Lawson (respected solo bass guitarist), Martin Bowen (Probation Management - The Automatic), Danny Hagan - (Green Man Festival), Matthew and the panel will be discussing many subjects from DIY Strategies for  the Independent Musician to Writing and setting up your own label plus many, many more topics.  A report will follow the event plus photos I am reliably informed.

In other news, Dylan has now set himself up as a guitar tutor.  With his knowledge of music, the guitar and song writing ability, he is sure to be able to help any aspiring guitarist along the music path.  If you wish to contact Dylan to ask for private tuition, then please contact Cathedral Management and he will pass on your enquiry straight away and Dylan will get back to you ASAP and discuss the best plan of action for your particular needs.

Finally, the 2010 tours are being planned as we speak.  Dates are now being confirmed and when we have one complete tour itinerary sorted, you will be the first to know.  The plan is to take in as many cities around the UK as possible, so keep your eyes peeled.  Also, don't forget The Reasoning Christmas Party 2009 at The Globe in Cardiff on Saturday 21st November supported by the superb Godsticks.  This is going to be the 1st, full live performance by the new, 7 piece line-up.  The set is looking fantastic and as always, the band will be throwing in some real curve balls to spice up your night.  Don't forget the tinsel, glitter and Christmas decorations!! Get your tickets here - See Tickets - The Reasoning at The Globe - See you there!!

That's is for now but we will be back again very soon with more news and an exciting competition for the gig mentioned above.  Take care.

Love as always,

The Reasoning xxxxxxxxx

6th September 2009

Hi folks!

As promised, we bring you some excellent news to finalise this recent phase of development here at Comet Music HQ. We are delighted to welcome Tony Turrell (keyboards / vocals), who will now complete the new band line-up…taking The Reasoning to a seven-piece!

Many of you will already be familiar with Tony’s work, both in terms of his solo project(s), and his work with both Fish and Marillion. Tony brings with him a wealth of professional experience and musical talent, and – even at the audition stage! - has already added a new dynamic to the band’s rapidly developing sound. We consequently have some fantastic re-arrangements of our existing tracks, which also now include some gorgeous four-part vocal harmonies…and we can’t wait for you to hear them!

Our forthcoming show at The Globe in Cardiff on November 21st is a definite BE THERE! We’re very excited about introducing the new line-up to all of you, and to sharing some Xmas frivolity at the same time. Bring balloons, tinsel, and any other appropriate seasonal paraphernalia, and we’ll make this a party to remember…

Meanwhile (back at the studio), album three is underway and developing brilliantly. 2010 promises to be a fantastic year for all things Reasoning. Let the journey continue! xxxxxxx

We are now able to confirm the first details about the new band line-up! We are delighted to welcome on board Jake Bradford-Sharp (Drums) and Maria Owen (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar), who will now be sharing the next stage of The Reasoning’s musical journey with us. Further announcements will be made very soon, so do watch this space!

Christmas Show

We will be performing at The Globe in Cardiff on November 21st and hope to see as many of you there as possible. This will be a Christmas show, and the first opportunity for you to see the band perform a full electric set with the new line-up. Support for the evening will be announced in due course.

The Chauffeur

Earlier this month, our single, The Chauffeur, was released as a digital online download- only mp3. It achieved a mind-boggling number 2 in the Amazon UK rock download charts, and number 37 overall within two days of release, and we would like to say a big “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts.

If you haven’t already done so, you can get it from all major online download sites at a price of just 79p! On Amazon, you can find it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Chauffeur/dp/B002I4G4JC, and it’s also available on iTunes and Napster, amongst many others.

Meanwhile, we are hard at work on Album 3 and we are all delighted with our progress to date. We’ll let you know more about it very soon!

Thank you again, and we look forward to catching up with you all in the very near future.

Lots of love,

The Reasoning xxxxxxx

7th July 2009

Hi all once again!

This issue of the Dark Angel Times comes to you directly from Comet Music and Cathedral Management: and we have some very important news for you this time around.

After an incredible three years, many life-changing experiences both on and off-stage and two amazingly successful albums (which have sold in excess of 20,000 copies) this month welcomes the closing of one significant chapter in the life of The Reasoning…and the dawning of a brand new era.

The Reasoning that you have come to know thus far has reached a junction in its continuing musical journey, and we bid farewell to Gareth Jones and Vinden Wylde. Both Gareth and Vinden have been instrumental to the development of the band over the past three years (on keyboards and vocals, and drums respectively) and we have enjoyed many good times together. We have been proud to work with two such talented musicians and we wish them every success for the future, and sincerely thank them for the part they have played in The Reasoning’s success.

This incarnation of The Reasoning leaves you with an important legacy. Many of you will already be aware that the band recorded a single last month – this is a cover version of Duran Duran’s classic song, The Chauffeur. A version of this was performed as a part of the band’s live set in April, but it has now been given a complete Reasoning makeover, and will be available as a digital download on 10 August from all major digital distributors.

Initial reaction, from unsuspecting amateurs to hardened pros, has been excellent. Please do spread the word to your friends and family - Sing Blue Silver!

The plan for 2009 had been to regroup, rethink and begin to write our third album in earnest – and this has indeed been the case. As a further consequence, and upon reflection, we now understand that in order that The Reasoning continues to thrive, realises its full potential and meets the unique challenges of making music in the 21st century, the business organisation behind the band must implement some major changes. These changes will be disclosed in due course, but the first will be that Cathedral Management will now step up their involvement on the management side and take over all administrative and business matters.

FISH convention

As we begin this next stage of our development, it has been agreed that The Reasoning’s forthcoming appearance at this years’ FISH convention in Leamington Spa on August 9th be an acoustic performance, and we will be accompanied by additional musicians who will help bring an exciting and fresh interpretation to the acoustic arrangements of our songs, and this is something we’re really looking forward to. This has, of course, been discussed with Fish himself in full, and an official announcement to this effect will also be made from Fish and his team through the appropriate channels.

New releases

There are some exciting (and imminent) releases in the pipeline. First of all, in the wake of a fantastic success at this years’ Marillion convention in Holland, we will be releasing a recording of that performance in continuation of the Reasoning “Bootleg” series.  Expect to add this to your CD collections before the end of the year.

Magazine Reviews

There are two excellent reviews of the band’s gig at The Peel in April which are certainly deserving of your attention – a lead live review (spread over two pages) in the second issue of Classic Rock Presents PROG and another excellent review in the July edition of Record Collector magazine.

The Reasoning Online Family

The Reasoning Facebook fan site goes from strength to strength, the band’s MySpace site continues to attract new friends (and has had almost 190,000 views during its three year development), and The Official Forum has just celebrated its second anniversary. Enormous thanks are due to all who have shared the journey so far. Long may it continue!

13th May 2009

Hi everyone - and welcome to the May edition of Dark Angel Times! We’ve had a fantastic year so far and can’t believe how quickly the time has passed. There are more exciting things afoot than ever before, so without further ado:

In this issue

DVD: “Live and Untrousered in Bilston 2008”

We are delighted to announce that the DVD from last October’s show at the Robin 2 in Bilston (the very first of our “Official Bootleg” series) will be on sale in the official Online Shop here from Friday 15th May: at the special credit crunch price of only £6 (inc p&p)! To keep the price so ridiculously low there’s no fancy packaging, and although we describe it as a “Bootleg”, this is a five-camera edit, and the audio and video quality are both fantastic! Feedback from those who bought it at the April gigs has been phenomenal.

The film includes the entire set: Sharp Sea, Dark Angel, Fallen Angels, Aching Hunger, Chasing Rainbows, Shadows Of The Mind, Call Me God?, Absolute Zero, Breaking The 4th Wall, How Far To Fall?, A Musing Dream and Awakening. For those of you have not been able to see us live yet, it’s a great way to experience the intensity, passion and fun that is a TR gig!

Shop “Sale

Sticking with the theme of value for money, we thought we’d have a Spring / Summer sale in our Online Shop (going live on Friday 15th May).  Not only will you be able to purchase our live DVD for a ridiculous price, but we’ve reduced the prices of both editions of Dark Angel, and also of our first album, Awakening. On top of that, we’ve added two special items that have not been sold online before, and were previously available only at our live shows: the Dark Angel Tour t-shirts, and Rachel’s exclusive hand-made necklaces! The necklaces sold out last year but now they’re back, and this time they’re in the shop!

Competition results

In the last issue of DA Times, we mentioned that we were going to run a special competition. At April’s gigs we offered the chance to win an electric guitar and a 6 string bass, each signed by the band, together with (and wait for it!) an evening out in Cardiff with The Reasoning! This sparked a raffle-ticket-buying frenzy at the merchandise desk (after all, the winners might even get to see Owain’s pigeon impression!) and we can now announce that the winners are:

Guitar: Peter Wharton from Buckinghamshire.

Bass: John Morley from London.

Well done guys!  We are really looking forward to sharing a few drinks with Peter and John, and presenting them with their prizes, and we’d like to thank so many of you for taking part. If you didn’t win this time, we’ll see what we can dream up for the next competition!

The April gigs and Operation Wogan

We are always genuinely amazed by and hugely appreciative of the audience reaction at our live shows, but we were absolutely stunned by the way in which you guys simply brought the house down at both The Peel and The Robin 2. To render Rachel almost speechless on stage is quite an achievement!! The sing-a-longs to Breaking The 4th Wall were particularly special. The song has become a real crowd favourite these days, and it was very moving for us to just stand back and let you all sing for us! Thank you!

The new arrangements of some of the old favourites worked really well, too – so a massive thanks is due to everyone who came along and made these shows so fantastic. The Peel was packed out, we had our biggest crowd at The Robin 2 to date, and it was great to catch up with old friends and make a lot of new ones!

On the subject of Breaking The 4th Wall, the song’s universal appeal has encouraged us to set up a campaign to get it played on the Terry Wogan show on BBC radio 2!  Please do your bit for “Operation Wogan” and leave a message here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wake-up-to-wogan/contact/. If you could spare a couple of minutes to visit this link, enter “Breaking the Fourth Wall” in the “subject” box, and then – under “comments” – just suggest enthusiastically that the song ought to be aired very soon! Let’s see if we can work together to encourage Wogan to play it!!

Future prospects

We expect to have a new addition to our “Official Bootleg” following the release of the Live and Untrousered in Bilston 2008 DVD very soon. We’re making good progress with it so you know what to do - watch this space!

But the really exciting news is that we’ve reserved studio time to record an exclusive digital single for release over the summer! We can’t tell you what the song is yet, but (trust us) it is going to be great.  We have booked in with the rather splendid John Mitchell who, as you are aware, mixed “Dark Angel” for us and did an incredible job.  This time we will be recording the whole track with John, and we can’t wait. Suffice to say, we reckon you’re going to love it, too!

And of course don’t forget about Album 3! Work is ongoing and we’ll keep you updated with progress over the coming months.

Concerts

Firstly we hope to see some of you at the Fish Convention on Sunday 9th August at the Assembly Rooms in Leamington Spa. Tickets for the convention are available directly from FISH's official site - www.the-company.com.

But that’s not all! We’re currently looking at organising a series of acoustic shows later in the year. The acoustic gigs we performed last year went down so well, and we enjoyed them so much, that we really want to do more!  The songs will be re-arranged and re-interpreted and (as ever) the set will also be full of Reasoning humour and spirit. We plan to film / record one of these shows too for a future release.

Finally, we’re setting up a very special Christmas gig, and planning a full set of UK / European and North American dates for 2010 as we speak.  This is something we’re really looking forward to!

Further details on all these will be announced as soon as they are finalised. Read it here first, folks!

New issue of Classic Rock Presents PROG

Media support for and coverage of the band is going from strength to strength, and we are delighted to announce that, based on The Reasoning’s recent London show, we have been given the double page lead live review in the forthcoming issue of Classic Rock Presents PROG. We have it on good authority that the article looks fantastic and reads very positively indeed!

Thanks as always to all concerned for their continued support and encouragement. The magazine will be available in the shops from next Wednesday – 20th May, but please note that issue one of the mag sold out very quickly, so you’ll need to source and collect your copy promptly! We shall look forward to hearing your thoughts on the review in due course, too.

The Reasoning Online Family

Did you know we had a YouTube site? It’s here :-

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheReasoning. We’ve recently added a video of Breaking The 4th Wall, filmed at the 12 Bar in Swindon last year. Check it out, and subscribe for future updates!

Don’t forget our ever-expanding Facebook fan site with now over 550 fans! And not forgetting The Official Forum – why not come along and have a look to see what we’re all up to?

Well that’s about it for now – we’re off for a few beers! Should you have any questions at all, then (as you know by now) please contact Graeme at info@cathedralmanagement.com. Until then, take care and we will see you on the road very soon!

Lots of love as always,

Matthew, Rachel, Dylan, Gareth, Owain, Vinden, Comet the Cat, “Big” Dave and Graeme xxxxxxxxx

5th April 2009

Hi everyone - and welcome to the second edition of Dark Angel Times!

We’re chuffed to bits with all the great feedback we’ve received from both the first issue and the recent special edition of D.A.T., so we hope you like this one even more! We’ve got news on a special competition for each of the April gigs (as promised last issue), updates on live releases (on their way soon!), and some thoughts from the band and crew on our recent live appearance at the Marillion Convention last month in the Netherlands.

In this issue

April Live dates and competitions

Firstly a reminder of the 2 headline gigs in April –

Saturday 25th April 2009 - The Peel in Kingston. Support - Tinyfish
Sunday 26th April 2009 - The Robin 2 in Bilston. Support – Marc Atkinson (Riversea)

We can’t wait to get back out on the road again, especially playing with our great friends Tinyfish and Marc Atkinson of Riversea. Our set list has been put together especially for these shows and will feature a good representation of songs from both “Awakening” and “Dark Angel”… with a few twists and turns along the way! The band have been working hard on some new arrangements and sounds, so these two shows really are not to be missed.

We mentioned last time that we were going to have news of a special competition, but in fact we’ve got two! We have an electric guitar and a 6 string bass signed by the band and you will have the chance to take one of these away! Final details are being decided upon and we’ll let you know how to enter the competition very shortly!

Live “Bootleg” DVD

The live bootleg DVD from last October’s show at the Robin 2 in Bilston (the final date of the Dark Angel tour) is nearly finished and will be on sale at the April gigs at a special credit crunch price! Entitled “Live and Untrousered in Bilston 2008” the DVD contains the entire Robin 2 show with 5 different camera angles. More details on price and track listing will be announced soon, but it is looking great and will certainly highlight how much fun the band have together on stage.

As featured in Classic Rock Presents PROG!

This fantastic magazine was launched on 25th March and not only was Dark Angel featured on the cover CD, page 5 features a full page photo of Rachel (complete with her Dark Angel wings, of course!), there is an excellent article on the band on page 13, and an interview with Rachel (including even more photos!) in the “Ladies in Prog” piece on pages 32-37. Two of the photos used were taken at the Shepherds Bush Empire in November 2008 by our very own
Mike Evans – a good friend, photographer and video editor - so we’re especially delighted for him! And the magazine itself has been selling out fast which is great news. We hope you got your copy!

What we did at the Marillion Convention

Some things live long in the memory and this will be one! Playing to a fantastic audience of nearly 3,000 was a really special moment and we’d like to thank Marillion, their staff and crew (and fans!) for making it possible. We will be putting more details up on our new blog at The Dark Angel Times Blog in due course but first just a few (highly edited, though you wouldn’t believe it) overriding memories from some of us, that we hope will give you some idea of what we got up to.

Dylan

“What a weekend!!! We all laughed hard on the trip over and to be with such good friends joking about and generally behaving like idiots made the trip over far less gruelling.

The sun shone for the whole weekend and despite the inevitable hangovers it was a pleasure to get up and embrace each day. On Saturday afternoon we drove our gear to the venue and managed to set up ahead of schedule so everything went smoothly and stress free. We sound checked with a minimum of problems and then sat backstage listening to The Wishing Tree sound check and perform. A few hours later we were on the stage ourselves and rocking our socks off. By all accounts it was a great performance. It was such a pleasure to look out over 2,500 people clapping and cheering us on and a gig I will never forget.

The rest of the weekend was spent wandering between the bar, the venue and our beds...we got drunk, watched more performances, met some wonderful characters and made new friends from all over the world... my only regret is that we had to come home on Monday morning.”

“Big” Dave

“One of the best weekends away I've ever had, being there with my best friends made it all the more pleasurable. The trip over was as fun packed as ever, Gareth reading Horoscopes, Vinden snoring in the van, Owain & Rachel doing their Labyrinth song routine and Matt listening to his usual musical diet of Led Zeppelin.

Trying to remember to drive on the right was interesting as well as watching out for all those really well hidden speed cameras (not that we were speeding of course). Unfortunately due to a road closure we found ourselves lost for a few minutes but then we got directions from a friendly local and we back on track and heading towards Port Zelande, but after starting out from Cardiff early in the morning we were only 45 minutes behind schedule.

The following day we were welcomed by glorious sunshine and slightly hazy heads, so most of us took a walk to the beach under the supervision of Nick, our European tour dude, who said the beach was only 5 minutes away. Well all I can say is that minutes must last longer in Holland! After briefly paddling in the freezing sea we all headed back to base and chilled out before commencing our sound check duties.

The gig was faultless and to be honest I thought it was always going to be that way due to the amount of hard work the guys put in. Take from me (No. 1 Fan) as well as the 2,500+ audience, they rocked!!!!!!!”

Vinden

“Yeah! What a weekend! The trip over was quick and relaxing (Thanks to an in depth look at my eyelids and vocal warm-ups). I remember turning up late at Centre Parcs on Friday and listening to the crowd, feeling the bass through the ground. My first thought was "I wonder if ‘A Musing Dream’ will feel like this, so far away?"

The following day I spent the majority of the time pre-gig thinking about how it will all fit together and how we will be received. It wasn't long before we were setting up, sound checking and then moving all the kit to the back of the stage for later. When we arrived back after some food I peered above the stairs from backstage and looked at the heads bobbing around and thought "Oh yes! This makes me feel good and excites me immensely..........must do this more" : )

When it was our turn to go on I must admit setting up whilst having all those people looking did help me relax into things. All I could think whilst the others were tuning up/positioning themselves and as I peered at the crowd was "You're having it!" The crowd were all so energetic and enthusiastic towards us and I will never forget it...shame it was over so quickly!”

Graeme

“Crawling out of bed after 3 hours sleep on Sunday morning to get the show downloaded onto our hard drive (for future release!); meeting up with old friends and making many new ones on Saturday night and then on Sunday as we made our way from bar to bar; laughing so hard at the most stupid of jokes that it was difficult to breathe, but then seeing the band switch effortlessly into the true professionals that they are, hearing the crowd calling out for Breaking The 4th wall to be played (which it was) and ultimately being privileged to see The Reasoning play a complete blinder and totally winning over the audience. Job done!”

Nick

“Arriving in late Friday afternoon at Port Zelande, golden lighted birds were flying in magic beams of a shining sun which was slowly sinking. Everything pointed towards a great weekend with friends. The Reasoning kicked ass with their new opening to “Awakening”. I, just 5 metres from the stage, could feel the vibe of the 2,500 people behind me. The applause and a “happy birthday to Rachel” was really top. I was hugely impressed by the set and energetic performance. And yes mad dog Owain on guitar is a new diamond as well. But most credit must go to the 3 voices of The Reasoning, which makes their music really special and unique.”

Gareth

“As we set off in our trusty steed, Mega Bob, it was the usual funny noises and inane conversation from The Reasoning crew. When nearing Port Zelande, Owain and I looked out for a small man with a pipe to show us the way while “Big” Dave and Matt looked for more constructive ways of reaching our destination.

MUCH OF THE REST OF THE EVENING IS A BLUR.....

Next morning, Nick took us to a section of the moon which had been disguised as a man made beach. Very nice it was too. Amazing weather. Looked forward to the gig. Thanks to the sound guys for letting us load and sound check early. Sounded monstrous from where I was standing. The gig was great. I didn't forget to say Happy Birthday to Rachel, and the crowd saved me the humiliation of having to sing it. Cheers! Had a great time at the Adventure Factory after the gig. Much singing/dancing/drinking hilarity.

It was very cool to be treated like a rock star for much of Sunday, as we posed for photos, signed autographs and had beers bought for us. Contrary to what one gentleman intimated, it does not suck being famous! Evening fell. Drank beer. Drank whiskey. Ate day old boiled egg doused in whiskey. Felt ill. Went to bed.”

We were hoping to have some thoughts from Owain, but given that he spent most of Sunday asleep he probably doesn’t have a lot to say! And since he missed many of the impromptu signing sessions on Sunday his autograph now has great rarity value – so track him down at The Peel or The Robin and get yourselves a real gem! And if you want to hear what Matt and Rachel thought of it all…well you’ll have to come to the gigs and ask them! (Or check out
the blog, the forum, Facebook, MySpace, Reverbnation….)

Well, that’s about it for now. We may indeed have rambled on a bit, but we had a great time… and you should have seen the unedited versions! Don’t forget that we will also be appearing at the Fish Convention on Sunday 9th August so hope to see you there! Tickets are available directly from FISH's official site -

6th February 2009

The Reasoning and Comet Music are delighted to announce that Graeme Hayter [of Cathedral Management] has now been appointed as our business manager and professional representative.

Graeme is a long time friend and enthusiastic champion of ours, and has - in a previously unofficial capacity - already dedicated a great deal of time to assisting the band in various matters. With more than twenty years of international corporate experience, Graeme has acquired a reputation as a highly successful businessman, and his long-standing financial expertise will certainly be very valuable to us, particularly within the current economic climate.

We truly believe that Graeme will be an incredible asset to the company, and 2009 looks better all the time!

Graeme added “I’ve watched The Reasoning mature as artists and musicians over the last few years and develop a formidable reputation and a strong identity, live and in the studio. Matthew has a tremendous drive and passion for The Reasoning which I share, and it was an easy decision to make when he asked me to take on this role. I’m really excited and can’t wait to get started!”

This appointment comes into immediate effect.  Any parties wishing to liaise with The Reasoning with regard to promotion, concert bookings, promos and interviews should now direct their enquiries to Cathedral Management at – info@cathedralmanagement.com  The band are still completely contactable at all the usual addresses.

5th January 2009

2008 events

2008 as a whole was an amazing year for The Reasoning, albeit with various ups and downs. Finding a guitar genius in Owain has led to a tighter and more dynamically exciting band both sonically and visually (which could be witnessed during our headline tour in October and on tour with FISH in November), and the response to the release of “Dark Angel” (from yourselves, and from the media) has been wonderful… we cannot thank you enough for that. On top of all that we moved to a new distribution company – Nova.

In December 2008, the fall of Woolworths was a huge shocker to all which led to the fall of Entertainment 24, their distribution firm. In turn, this put Pinnacle (one of the largest distributors) into administration, affecting many record companies, 3rd party distributors and retail outlets. Since Nova distributed through Pinnacle, there were also serious repercussions for us but, fortunately, we have come through the other side and here we are still standing. Nova have now negotiated a new deal with “Universal” and “Plastic Head”, with which we are very pleased. What does this mean? As from today our CDs are now available again from the shops and places such as Amazon etc. iTunes were not affected and the CDs can, of course, always be bought directly from us. So, onwards and upwards!

2009 gigs and releases

The Reasoning are pleased to announce that we have 3 gigs for the 1st part of 2009. These are as follows –

Saturday 21st March 2009 – The Marillion Convention in Port Zélande, The Netherlands.
Saturday 25th April 2009 – The Peel in Kingston – Support to be announced
Sunday 26th April 2009 – The Robin 2 in Bilston – Support to be announced

As we see it, these will be the only gigs in the 1st half of 2009. Our plans are to concentrate on releasing a special “Bootleg” DVD from our show in the Robin 2 last November (more details to follow) and to concentrate on the writing of album number 3, which will begin later this month. On top of that we are also planning something very special, but before we announce what we have in store, further plans have to be finalised. After album 3 is recorded, we will then look at touring extensively to promote that, but we are not putting any time limit on this album: it will be made and finished when we think we have the best album to present to you.

So there you go, 2009 plans to be a busy one and we can’t wait to get things moving. Thank you for an amazing 2008 and let’s make sure this year is one of the best yet.

Speak to you all soon and take care.

Love as always,

Matt, and the TR Mob xxxxxx

31st December 2008

Happy New Year and have a wonderful 2009 everyone. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for being so wonderful and for supporting us so enthusiastically over the past 3 years, it means the world to us. We all look forward to seeing you next year for some more music, fun and of course beer

I will be back on line from Monday when I will have news of some gigs, the projects we intend to undertake in 2009 along with updates as to what has been going on in The Reasoning camp.

Thanks again and be good. Love you all. You ROCK!

Cheers,

The Reasoning xxxxxxx

19th December 2008

Dear all,

I write to say a massive "Thank you" for a quite incredible 2008. We have seen a change in our line-up, completed 4 tours (including one with FISH) and seen the release of "Dark Angel" to rave reviews. Along the way we have cemented friendships - and established new ones - which means the world to us.

In this current climate many things are uncertain, as we are all finding out, but one thing will remain constant - and that is the love and respect we have for you. Bring on 2009 and let's make that an even better year, if possible, for us all to remember.

As a small token of our appreciation, The Reasoning would like to give you an exclusive present. During the past 3 years we have been performing a track called "Talk To Me"  which was especially close to Rachel's heart. Having decided in advance that we would exclude the song from our live set after this years' headline tour, we recorded a full studio version during the sessions for "Dark Angel". This is our gift to you.

It is downloadable from this very site.  Just click on the "Home" part of the menu and you will then see the option - "Download Talk To Me" - in the bottom left hand corner of the site.

We hope you enjoy it! From all of us at The Reasoning we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Successful 2009. Take care, thank you SO much and see you next year.

Love as always,

Matthew, Rachel, Dylan, Gareth, Owain, Vinden, Big Dave and Comet xxxxxxxx

1st December 2008

Hi gang, sorry for the lack of appearance here recently, but after the Fish tour we have been running at a million miles an hour to catch up. As you know, Rach and myself are off on our belated honeymoon today, so we promise to give you a full tour report when we get back. Suffice to say, the tour was amazing and it was so great to see so many of you there as well.

Before I get to the review, I just want to say a massive "Thank you" from us all for all your incredible support over the past year. 2008 has been a revelation in so many ways, but most of all, it has been you guys getting behind us and making us feel like we can achieve anything. You are amazing -
THANK YOU!!!! Very Happy

Anyway, posted in the "Press" section of this site is a rather splendid review by Matt Spall of Powerplay Magazine. The album has even been included in the "Beg, Borrow or Steal......" section of the magazine - Brilliant! Cool  Enjoy and see you when we get back from New York

29th October 2008

Well it has been just over a week since we completed our 1st leg of the "Dark Angel Tour" and boy did we have a fantastic time.  You were all so amazing and LOUD!!!  This was the 1st time that we had you all singing back along with us and it was a truly wonderful experience.  Throughout all the dates you got behind us and showed us why The Reasoning fans are the BEST!  Thank you so much and we can't wait to see you when we tour with FISH in a few weeks time.

This then leads me onto the next point.  I have finally put a "Gallery" up on this site.  After much messing about, I found a layout that works nicely and I hope you like it.  There are 3 galleries up at the moment - Cardiff, The Point - London, The Borderline - Bilston, The  Robin 2.  The photos come courtesy of Mike Evans and Adrian The Rock and you will agree that they have done a stunning job.  Thanks guys.  More pictures will be uploaded soon, especially as I know what I am doing now - DOH!

Secondly, I have updated the "Shop" as well.  This time the "Shop" is integrated into this site and I have made the layout earlier.  At this stage I have made the CDs available, but after the FISH tour I will be adding the various other little goodies for you.

Finally, in the "Press" section is the stunning review by Jerry Ewing of Classic Rock.  He has said some rather splendid things about our Angel and this review can be found in the 10th Anniversary Edition of Classic Rock (issue 125).  Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Speak to you all really soon and again - Thank You.  Catch you on the road next month and get ready for a very HEAVY, rocking set.......

Love as always,

Matt and the TR crew xxxxxxx

7th October 2008

Hi all!

Exciting things are afoot here at
Comet Music – and we are pleased to bring you our breaking news in this press release.

Business is expanding rapidly and, following the recent recruitment of our new PR representative Katie Sanderson, we are now delighted to announce that we have entered into a management deal with Graham Coath of COATHOOK MUSIC. Graham has been helping Katie at Comet Headquarters with PR work in the lead up to the release of Dark Angel - and he will now assume the role of full time manager. Previously a signed musician himself, and with many years of experience in the music business - from band management to radio broadcasting/presenting and live performances - Graham will be working alongside Katie to bring The Reasoning to a wider audience both here in the UK and around the world.

If you are already a member of our mailing list, please expect to receive an email from Graham very shortly – this is part of a process to ensure that we are holding the correct contact details for you.

Having a full-time management team on board now enables me to concentrate on the most important thing of all - our music! – although it doesn't mean that we will distance ourselves from the wonderful community (all of you!!) now associated with the band. We have many exciting ideas in the pipeline which will allow you all to participate more fully in all of our efforts, help us to promote our music, and to further develop this wonderful extended family.

Love as always,

Matt and the TR crew xxxxxxx

13th September 2008

Good afternoon one and all, and hope you are doing well?  Ok then, here we go and I will keep it short -

"Dark Angel" is home and ready for shipping

First thing on Monday morning, ALL the orders will be in the post to you.  Obviously they will not arrive all at the same time, but the UK orders will be with you next week.  Europe should be with you by the end of next week and those of you in the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico and China will get your copies at the beginning of next week.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding with the delay of this album.  So much has happened during the recording / pressing, that delays were unforeseen but necessary.  I / we really appreciate you sticking by us and can't wait to see you all on the road.  Take care, please enjoy and see you soon.

Love as always,

Matt and The Reasoning xxxxxxx

2nd September 2008

Good afternoon all and welcome to another rainy Summers day   What the hell happened to our Summer eh?  Oh well, just as well as I would have missed the sunny days as well, as I have been glued to my computer and phone for the past 3 months.  So here it is, the time has arrived., "Dark Angel" is about to be unleashed.  I should have all the CDs back from the pressing plant in just over a week and then it is yours

As some of you are aware, we are holding the "Launch Party" this Saturday where a few lucky people will get to hear the album for the 1st time.  We had such an amazing response to the invite notification, but unfortunately we were restricted by space, so many of you missed out on a place.  Sorry if we didn't reply personally, but as I said the response was so great that we could only reply to the winners.  Hope you understand?

As part of the build up to the launch, we will be doing 2 radio interviews this week with Jerry Ewing and Malcolm Dome on Total Rock radio.  The 1st show is with Jerry between 1pm and 3pm Wednesday the 3rd September.  I will be doing a phone interview with some on the songs being aired for the 1st time.  Then on Saturday the 6th September we will be going to the studio in London to appear on Malcolm's show which will be broadcast on Saturday evening.  Tune in, enjoy and see you there.  Take care and keep your eyes and ears open for the postman.

Love as always,

Matt and The Reasoning xx

23rd August 2008

Hello all and I hope you are enjoying this relatively rain-free weekend.  Just a quick update to let you know that our "Dark Angel" has gone into production and should be landing soon.  As a little appetiser, we have a promotional trailer for the Ltd Edition version of the album that can be found on our YouTube site.  Here is the link -

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gnVpSY3kgpw

It has been put together by the gentleman who has edited the whole DVD, a certain Mr. Mike Evans and he has done an amazing job.  Hope you enjoy and that it gives you a little insight as to what to expect.  It is so much fun and a real true, behind the scenes look at the band.  I also have to mention that the DVD comes with a "Parental Guidance" sticker, due to the fact that we have shown you all exactly what this band is about, consequently, there is a certain amount of bad language!!!  You have been appropriately warned.  See you soon and take care.

Love as always,

Matt and the TR crew xxx

29th July 2008

Hello everyone and welcome to the all new website.  I know it has been a long time coming, but we needed to make sure the right design was in place.  The previous site was just awesome but unfortunately, there were a few issues with navigation and with the fact that the whole site was in a "Flash" format.  Well, we have gone back to the good old "HTML" way of doing things and more importantly we have made sure that the navigation is as accessible as possible.  This is now a 1 stop shop for all things to do with The Reasoning i.e. Forum, YouTube, MySpace etc.  I hope you enjoy.

The site is 90% done now, but we still have the "Gallery" to finish and do some little tweaks, but that won't take long.  Now that the new format is in place, it means that I am able to update very easily and all the time.

Right then, As many of you are aware, we are holding a launch party for "Dark Angel" at The Royal George in London on Saturday 6th September 2008.  We have hired the downstairs of the venue just for this sole purpose and we want to invite you lot .  This will the 1st time, anywhere, that "Dark Angel" will be aired in its entirety along with a showing of the bonus DVD.  On top of that, there will be a special acoustic set by Rachel, Dylan and Gareth plus a Q&A.  Of course, there will be plenty of ale flowing too

Unlike a lot of bands, we are not making this a press only event or charging for the privilege.  This is about celebrating the launch of an album we are VERY proud of.  We couldn't think of a better way of sharing the unveiling than by having you guys there with us.  So, if you wish to attend, we have 50 VIP tickets available just for you.  All you have to do is click here - LAUNCH PARTY TICKETS - and just add your full name and postal address.  During the 2nd week in August we will contact all the lucky recipients plus send you your tickets.  By the way, tickets are restricted to 2 per person.  Good luck - we can't wait to see you there, hang out, have fun and celebrate "Dark Angel"

Love as always,

Matt and the TR crew xxx

5th June 2008

As many of you are aware, we have recently bid farewell to our guitarist, Lee Wright.  The prospect of having to find a replacement was initially somewhat daunting, but we are all continually prepared to accept change – and always enjoy a challenge! Lee is a great and talented individual, and remains a close friend of the band.

We were extremely fortunate on our Dutch Tour to be accompanied by the wonderful Jay MacDonald who stepped in just for those dates.  Jay (of Bluehorses notoriety) did a remarkable job - learning the whole set in just 2 weeks! – and the tour was a great success as a result.

Long term, the new Reasoning guitarist was always going to have to be something very special, someone who would add something extra to our sound and to the band dynamic, whilst allowing us to enter the next phase of our career with all guns blazing.  We are therefore delighted to announce that our search is over, and would like to introduce Owain Roberts as the latest addition to The Reasoning family.

Owain's audition sessions were fun, exciting and eye-opening.  He brings with him a wealth of musical knowledge and experience that sits brilliantly with the band.  His outlook, personality and ability have got us all jumping for joy, and we can't wait to unleash him on you!  We have already started laying down some of his solos on "Dark Angel", and Owain compliments the music perfectly, adding a new edge to our sound.

His first public performance will be at The Cambridge Rock Festival on the 20th July along with our friends, Touchstone, Breathing Space, Mostly Autumn and Marillion.  The festival has long promised to be a great day – now even more so with Owain on the team.

I know that you will make him very welcome and we are all thoroughly looking forward to what lies ahead.  See you soon and thank you (as always) for your continued love, support, encouragement and enthusiasm – it means the world to us.  We shall be posting some promo pictures of Owain soon, but, for now, here is a little teaser for you.  Keep Rocking!!!!!!!

Love as always,

The Reasoning xxxxxxx

9th May 2008

Hi all and hope you are well?  I received an e-mail from a good friend of the band this morning stating that we had been reviewed in the very respected magazine, Record Collector.  I jumped straight in the car, headed to Tesco and bought it immediately.  After flicking through the magazine, there it was on page 114, a review of The Reasoning at The Robin 2 in Bilston on the 20th January 2008 - WOW!!!  Such a cool and exciting thing to see and so please that the reviewer Paul enjoyed the show so much.  It was a great night for so many reasons and this just tops it all of for us.  So, here it is.  It brings back some very cool memories......

The Reasoning in Wolverhampton at The Robin 220th January 2008
View - Standing stage-right.

The Reasoning are much more than an identikit prog band. Formed by bassist Matthew Cohen, following his departure from Magenta, they're one of the most exciting new British prospects of the last few years. The key is the interplay between the three lead singers, guitarist Dylan Thompson, keyboardist Gareth Jones and ex-Karnataka vocalist Rachel Cohen. Individually each would shine, and the impact of three such fine singers is exhilarating. They open with Karnataka's Talk To Me, tonight's only nod to former bands, but this is a far more dynamic unit than Karnataka. The show included tracks from The Reasoning's fine self-titled debut, including the wonderful title track, a couple of covers, and songs from the forthcoming Dark Angel. This will be an album to savour, and it should enhance their growing reputation.

25th April 2008

It has been a wonderful two years for The Reasoning - things have gone from strength to strength, the new album is coming together beautifully, and our journey together has thus far been mercifully trouble-free!

This week sees the beginning of a new era for the band, as we bid farewell to Lee Wright, owing to his increasing work and family commitments. As a talented musician and long-time team member, Lee's presence in The Reasoning will most certainly be missed. We all remain close friends, however, and we wish him all the very best for the future.

From a business perspective, the timing of these events couldn't be better! We are already rehearsing with a number of prospective guitarists for our forthcoming tours, and hope to announce an exciting new line-up in the very near future. In the meantime, our good friend Jay MacDonald [of Blue Horses notoriety] will be joining us for next month's European live dates.

Onwards and most definitely upwards. The Dark Angel is on her way…

See you all soon.

Much love

The Reasoning xxxxxxx
